Inspiration: As I was looking for books/artwork/literature to inspire me for this project, the three above caught my eye the most. The first one is The Scream, a painting my Edvard Munch from 1893. The second is a quote/poem by Christopher Poindexter. Finally, the last one is a painting my modern artist Faye Hall. All of three of these things show emotion towards depression and unhappiness, which is very much the core of many experimental videos. So, I wanted to do something along those lines. From looking at them, all three have different stories behind them, you can tell from the way the art is painted and by the words in the poem. After putting some thought into it I believe I can portray the feeling of the quote the most. It's the one out of three that really caught my attention and I envisioned the entire film in my head, moments after reading it. So, I my concept will be based on the poem by Poindexter.
My Concept: Out of all the choices, I feel this is the one I have most developed. My idea for this video is to portray the background behind the quote, the reason why he wrote what it says. I am planning on focusing the film around the struggles of a girl who has gone through a lot in her life. These events cause her to have problems with over drinking and mentally unstable problems into her life, making her very distraught and out of character. This leads on to her dropping out of school, staying at home all the time, being depressed. I also want to combine her dreams/nightmares, like flashbacks, so the audience knows what caused her to become like this. Although the details aren't quite thought out, this is the beginning of my idea. Also, in the video I am not focusing on love can heal our brokenness, but the fact that the person is broken and literally drunk all the time, self medicating, abusing. Instead of making it a film about a broken heart, I want to take on a serious subject and really bring out the true emotions and struggles many people go through in the world.
Based on: This quote/poem is by Christopher Poindexter, who prefers not be called a poet, but an observer of the world. His mini poems have so much meaning behind them. Out of all them, I would this quote has always effected me the most, I love the voice and mood it creates. The reality of it is so true, and inspires me a lot to create a video living up to its standards. When looking into the quote, it's actually very dark, it's about hope and life, and the meaning of being human, and the actualization in life. I think to bring all of this into a video, it would be really cool.
How: All the colors, background, clothes, I want them to be dark and not vividly bright. I also want to use a lot of camera angles and techniques to show how she is distraught and out of it. Blurring and refocusing, titling the camera upside and to the side. Also the filters on the movie itself will be dark and not a lot of brightness. The main thing I hope will really tie to the mood together in the movie is the soundtrack. I want to create something shows how my character feels/acts. Along with music, I want to overlap sound affects to enhance the mood and emotion.
